.ASIA on it’s way - .XXX declined for the 3rd time

Published by Morten Rand-Hendriksen | Filed under Internet

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has approved the .asia domain which is set to be released later this year.  With about 400 million internet users in Asia the .asia domain will open enormous business opportunities for business owners and individuals that wish to establish presence in the ever-growing Asia-Pacific market.

At the same time they rejected the proposal for tripple-x domain extensions (.xxx) for the third time as a result of criticism from governments, religious groups and the entertainment industry.  The tripple-x domain is proposed as a voluntary option for sites that are not suitable for children but it is obvious that having a tripple-x domain extension will give certain types of businesses a huge boost so the motivation is questionable.
